A Reflection

There’s so much that this photo represents. More than a picture of a cloudy day in Lynchburg, Virginia. I took this photo as I was walking to my counselor’s office for a therapy session. I captioned it “new morning, new mercies 2/16/18”. It represents a season of seeking God in deep and intimate ways. Ways I’m not sure I’ll ever have again. It represents a season of seeking wholeness and of having really hard conversations. It represents growing and healing from all the unresolved trauma and shame I was carrying at the time. And as I look back and reflect on that season, I see that the decisions I was making then mattered. Those little decisions, of choosing counseling, of making time to seek God and His word, of deciding not to give up even when I really wanted to. All those decisions have led to the healing and freedom I’m walking in today. And though there’s still more healing and freedom to be found, I wouldn’t be who I am today without choosing those decisions. Our decisions and our choices–they matter. The ones we are making right now and the ones we made three years ago are all shaping our journey and becoming. What little decisions are you making today that are shaping you for the better? That are bringing more healing and wholeness to your life?

Many things have changed in my life since that season. For the good and the bad. But one thing that hasn’t changed is the promise that was captioned in the photo. That with each new morning, new mercies will follow.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end.”

Lamentations 3:22
